Profile
St. James Law, P.C. formulates and implements creative
solutions to business cash flow, insolvency and
bankruptcy problems.
Michael St. James, the principal
of the Firm, has had 20 years experience limited to the
business insolvency specialty. In 1993, he was selected
as one of 155 attorneys to be designated "Board
Certified – Business Bankruptcy" by the American
Board of Bankruptcy Certification. Mr. St. James’ has
played a key role in numerous cases
as counsel for the Debtor, the Creditors Committee or a
principal creditor; most recently, Mr. St. James
proposed the successful Plan of Reorganization in the American
Basketball League bankruptcy case.
The Firm maintains two important competencies in
related sub-specialties. First, the Firm is
sophisticated and focused on insolvency
tax issues, which often can have a
significant and unanticipated impact on a work-out or
reorganization. Second, the Firm is attentive to and
knowledgeable about intellectual
property issues, which permit it capably
to represent buyers, sellers, licensors and licensees of
intellectual property in high technology insolvency
cases.
The Firm prides itself on developing creative
solutions which minimize the business disruption and
attorneys fees incurred by its clients. When counseling troubled
businesses, the Firm always focuses first
on the possibility of a negotiated solution, either with
a few creditors or through a informal work-out rather
than a bankruptcy filing. When representing creditors
and acquirers of troubled businesses, the
Firm focuses on the ultimate business objective, trying
to streamline the process and avoid extensive
litigation; the Firm’s reputation for aggressive and
tenacious litigation helps it negotiate early and
successful settlements.
The Firm is dedicated to the proposition that the
practice of law is a service business. As a consequence,
the Firm’s clients are always able to contact
their counsel.
